Chemicals are the hazard people stop seeing. The drums have always sat in that corner, the SDS folder has always been on that shelf, and the ventilation has always been a bit ordinary. Then something leaks, ignites or reacts, and every one of those decisions gets pulled apart by an inspector.

GSD Safety works with businesses whose day-to-day operations revolve around chemicals: manufacturers and blenders, distributors and warehouses, cleaning and sanitation, pest control, agricultural supply, workshops, laboratories, and food plants running CIP and caustic washdowns.

We sort out what you hold, how it is classified and labelled, where and how it is stored, who is trained to handle it, and what happens on the day it goes wrong.

The obligations sit across the WHS Regulations, the Australian Dangerous Goods Code, and a stack of Australian Standards for storage and segregation. We translate that into a plan your site can actually run on a Tuesday afternoon, with the records to prove it.

How Our WHS Consultants Help

Prevent serious injuries

By getting substitution, engineering controls, ventilation and PPE right in the order the hierarchy of controls requires, not the order that is cheapest.

Prevent safety gaps

By fixing segregation, bunding, decanting and storage so incompatible goods are not one forklift error away from each other.

Prevent a disengaged crew

By building a hazardous chemicals register, a current SDS library, correct GHS labelling and a manifest that hold up the moment someone asks to see them.

Prevent failed audits and non-conformance

By training the people who actually decant, transfer, clean and dispose, not just the supervisor who signs the form.

Our WHS Services for Chemical and Dangerous Goods Sites

Each service can be delivered on its own or rolled into one program. We can also build something around the specific gaps on your site.

Say Goodbye to Safety Firefighting

Ready to stop reacting to incidents and start getting ahead of them? Book a free WHS assessment and take the first real step toward safer chemical handling and a compliant site.

The Impact of Getting WHS Wrong

Chemical incidents escalate faster than most. A single spill can put people in hospital, close a site, involve both your WHS regulator and your state environment regulator, and become a notifiable incident before the clean-up is finished.

Depending on the severity of an incident, the consequences can include:

You can manage all of that proactively, or you can manage it after something goes wrong. There is no rewind button on a chemical incident. Doing the work up front is always the cheaper path.

The GSD SAFETY Process

Getting chemical handling safe and compliant comes down to three stages: Assess, Align, Assure.

Assess Align Assure 3

1. ASSESS

We come on site for two days and measure your current arrangements against the WHS Act and industry practice, including what you hold, how it is stored and what your records say. You get a detailed risk analysis and a reporting dashboard that shows exactly where you stand.

2. ALIGN

Over 90 days, we overhaul the systems that need it and set your site on a path of continuous improvement. This is the stage where stuff actually gets done, quickly and in the right order.

3. ASSURE

We stay engaged on a structure that suits you, so the gains hold and you save on the cost of carrying every bit of safety management in-house.

CHEMICAL HANDLING AND DANGEROUS GOODS FAQS

Do you work with businesses outside Sydney?

GSD Safety supports manufacturers Australia-wide, from single-site fabricators and machine shops to multi-site manufacturing groups. Our consultants travel to site for assessments and use app-based tools to support sites between visits.

We focus on the hazards that injure factory workers most: machine guarding and entanglement, safe isolation and lock-out-tag-out during maintenance and changeovers, hazardous manual tasks, forklift and pedestrian traffic, noise, welding fume and dust, confined space entry, hot work, and chemical storage and handling.

Plant and process risk assessments are core to our Risk & Safety Assessment work. We assess the machine, the task, and the way the job is actually done on shift, then rank the controls so you fix the highest risk first instead of trying to fix everything at once.

Both parties. Under the WHS Act your business and the contractor each hold a duty of care, and where those duties overlap you are required to consult, cooperate and coordinate. GSD Safety sets up the induction, permit, isolation and sign-off process that makes those shared duties workable during shutdowns and capital works, so your maintenance windows stop being your highest-risk periods.

We build the records, procedures and reporting that customer prequalification systems and supplier audits ask for, so your safety documentation is ready before the request arrives rather than assembled in a panic. This is often the trigger for manufacturers to call us in the first place.

GSD Safety training is practical and role-specific, delivered on site and through VR modules covering lock-out-tag-out, forklift safety, confined space and manual handling. It is built to change how your crew works on the floor. It is not nationally accredited VET training, so where your team needs a formal ticket or licence we will point you to where to get it.

The initial assessment enquiry is free. From there we spend two days on your site reviewing safety arrangements against the WHS Act and industry practice, and you get a risk analysis plus a reporting dashboard showing your current position and priorities. No judgement about where you are starting from.
