Food manufacturing runs on output. The line has to keep moving, the orders have to ship, and the temptation is to treat safety as something you'll fix after the run. That is exactly how people get hurt and how a site ends up in front of a regulator.
- Is your production line under pressure to keep running while guarding, isolation and lock-out quietly slip?
- Do contractors arrive for shutdowns and maintenance without a clear safety process to follow?
- Are your WHS records and your food-safety records pulling the same people in two directions?
- Has a new site, a new line, or fast growth outpaced the safety systems you started with?
GSD Safety works with food and beverage producers to build safety systems that fit how a real plant operates: shift work, washdowns, sanitation chemicals, cold rooms, forklifts and packing lines. We design and run the systems that protect your people, your output and your reputation, then hand you the tools to keep them running.
Whether you are a growing SME producer or a multi-site FMCG business, the duty of care is the same. So is the standard of work we put in.
How Our WHS Consultants Help
Prevent serious injuries
By putting real guarding, isolation and traffic controls in place where the line is most likely to hurt someone.
Prevent safety gaps
By building systems that match how your site actually runs across every shift, line and location.
Prevent a disengaged crew
By delivering practical, role-specific training your floor team will use, not sit through and forget.
Prevent failed audits and non-conformance
By giving you records and reporting that stand up to both the regulator and your customers' supplier audits.
Our WHS Services for Food & FMCG Sites
Each service can be delivered on its own or rolled into one program. We can also build something around the specific gaps on your site.
Say Goodbye to Safety Firefighting
Ready to stop reacting to incidents and start getting ahead of them? Book a free WHS assessment and take the first real step toward a safer, more compliant food operation.
The Impact of Getting WHS Wrong
In a food plant, one serious incident does not stay contained. It stops the line, brings in the regulator, and can put a major retail or wholesale contract at risk, since most large buyers now audit their suppliers on safety as well as food quality.
Depending on the severity of an incident, the consequences can include:
- Fines up to $1.5M for individuals
- Fines up to $3.7M for businesses
- Jail time for serious injuries, deaths or serious near misses
- Production shutdowns while the site is investigated and remediated
- Lost supply contracts when customers review your safety record
- Lasting damage to your brand and reputation
You can manage all of that proactively, or you can manage it after something goes wrong. There is no rewind button on a workplace injury. Doing the work up front is always the cheaper path.
The GSD SAFETY Process
Getting a food site safe and compliant comes down to three stages: Assess, Align, Assure.
1. ASSESS
We come on site for two days and measure your current safety arrangements against the WHS Act and industry practice. You get a detailed risk analysis and a reporting dashboard that shows exactly where you stand.
2. ALIGN
Over 90 days, we overhaul the systems that need it and set your site on a path of continuous improvement. This is the stage where stuff actually gets done, quickly and in the right order.
3. ASSURE
We stay engaged on a structure that suits you, so the gains hold and you save on the cost of carrying every bit of safety management in-house.

FOOD MANUFACTURING WOKRPLACE SAFETY FAQS
Do you work with food manufacturers outside Sydney?
Yes. GSD Safety supports food and beverage producers Australia-wide, from single-site SME manufacturers to multi-site FMCG operations. Our consultants travel to site for assessments and use app-based tools to support sites between visits.
What food-sector safety risks do you focus on?
We focus on the hazards that injure food-factory workers most: machine guarding and entanglement, safe isolation and lock-out-tag-out during sanitation and maintenance, cleaning chemicals and CIP, combustible dust, confined spaces, cold-room and refrigeration work, manual handling, and forklift and pedestrian traffic.
Can you align WHS with our HACCP and food-safety system?
Yes. We build WHS systems that sit alongside your existing food-safety obligations rather than duplicating them, so cleaning, allergen, dust and hygiene controls are managed once across both regimes.
Is your WHS training nationally accredited?
Our training is practical and role-specific, delivered on site and through VR modules. It is designed to change how your team works on the floor. It is not nationally accredited VET training, so if you need formal qualifications we will tell you where to get them.
How do you help with contractor safety during shutdowns?
We set up the systems that control external trades on site during shutdowns and capital works, covering induction, permits, isolation and sign-off, so your maintenance windows do not become your highest-risk periods.
What does a WHS assessment involve?
We spend two days on site reviewing your safety arrangements against the WHS Act and industry practice, then give you a risk analysis and a reporting dashboard showing your current position and priorities. The initial assessment enquiry is free.
