In care work, the hazard often can't be removed. It's a resident who needs a two-person transfer at 3am, a patient who lashes out when confused, or a home visit where nobody knows what's behind the front door. Your staff carry that risk every shift, and the duty to manage it sits with you.
- Do your manual handling procedures match how transfers really happen on a short-staffed night shift?
- When a resident or visitor turns aggressive, is it reported and acted on, or quietly absorbed as part of the job?
- Could you show a regulator how you're managing fatigue, workload and other psychosocial hazards?
- Do your home care and community workers have a safe way to check in, check out and walk away?
Our healthcare WHS consultants support aged care homes, home care providers, clinics and allied health practices in managing the risks their workers face, from resident and patient handling, occupational violence and aggression to lone working, community-based work, hazardous chemicals and the psychological demands of caring for others. We look at how care is delivered on the floor, then build controls that fit around it rather than slowing it down.
Our focus is the health and safety of your workforce. Clinical governance and care quality stay with your clinical leads. We make sure the people delivering that care go home in one piece.
Where Our Healthcare
WHS Consultant Makes a Difference
Fewer handling injuries
Handling plans, equipment checks and technique that hold up when the floor is busy and the hoist is at the other end of the wing.
Aggression managed, not tolerated
Clear procedures for occupational violence, from warning signs flagged in care plans to post-incident support and review.
Psychosocial risk on the record
Fatigue, rostering pressure and exposure to distress identified, assessed and controlled like any other hazard, with records to prove it.
Safety records that sit beside your quality system
WHS documentation that works alongside your quality and clinical governance frameworks, not a separate folder nobody opens.

What Getting WHS Wrong Costs a Care Provider
In healthcare and aged care, a serious WHS failure rarely stays a single event. An injured care worker leaves a roster gap that pushes fatigue onto everyone else. A pattern of unreported aggression becomes a regulator’s investigation. And families, funders and regulators all notice when a provider’s own staff aren’t safe.
Depending on the incident, the fallout can include:
- Fines up to $1.5M for individuals and $3.7M for businesses
- Prosecution and jail time, including industrial manslaughter charges in most jurisdictions
- Workers' compensation claims and rising premiums, especially for back and shoulder injuries
- Staff turnover and agency costs in an already tight care workforce
- Scrutiny that spills into quality reviews and funding relationships
- Damage to your standing with residents, patients and families
You can’t un-injure a carer. Every item on that list costs more than putting the right controls in place now.
The GSD Safety Process
A three-stage approach designed around your rosters and residents, with Assess, Align and Assure.
1. ASSESS
Two days on site at your facility or practice, reviewing records, walking the floor and talking with staff and supervisors. You get a detailed risk analysis and a reporting dashboard showing where you're most exposed.
2. ALIGN
A 90-day program that fixes the priority gaps in order, from handling procedures and aggression management to psychosocial risk assessments, so changes are embedded in how care is delivered, not just written down.
3. ASSURE
Ongoing access to a senior WHS consultant on a structure that suits your organisation, so improvements hold as staff and residents change, without the cost of a full-time safety role.

Workplace Safety FAQs
Does GSD Safety provide healthcare WHS consultants across Australia?
Yes. GSD Safety’s healthcare WHS consultants work with residential aged care homes, home care providers, clinics and allied health practices Australia-wide. Our consultants travel to site for assessments, and the SafeAlign app supports your team between visits.
Does GSD Safety handle clinical safety or aged care quality assessments?
No. We focus on work health and safety: the risks to your staff, contractors and volunteers. Clinical governance, infection prevention programs and assessment against the Aged Care Quality Standards stay with your clinical and quality teams, although strong WHS systems make that work easier.
Can you help us manage psychosocial hazards like fatigue and occupational violence?
Yes. Under WHS laws, psychosocial hazards such as fatigue, high workload, exposure to trauma and aggression from residents, patients or families must be managed like any physical hazard. GSD Safety helps care providers identify these hazards, assess the risk and put controls in place that fit around care delivery.
How do you keep home care and community workers safe?
Home care and community workers face risks head office can’t see: unfamiliar homes, pets, driving between visits and working alone. Our team helps providers set up pre-visit risk checks, check-in procedures and escalation steps, so workers know when to leave and who to call.
Is GSD Safety's WHS training nationally accredited?
No. GSD Safety delivers practical, non-accredited workplace training on site and through VR modules. It isn’t nationally recognised VET training and doesn’t issue units of competency. If your staff need accredited qualifications, we’ll point you to a Registered Training Organisation.
How do we start with a free WHS assessment?
Call 1300 473 723 or send an enquiry, and we’ll talk through your sites, workforce and current concerns at no cost. If you go ahead, the Assess stage is two days on site, ending with a risk analysis and reporting dashboard.
